CRT Projectors & surplus audio/video equipment
August
23, 2013
There are many new projectors
and parts that have come in recently:
-
(Qty 6)
Barco/SEOS 919: These projectors are a late model build
(October 2002), and are a modified version of the
Barco 909 projectors, in that the CRT tubes are
mounted 90 degrees to how they are commonly found,
resulting in a 3:4 aspect ratio rather than a 4:3.
These projectors were stacked vertically in a tank
simulator. The HD10R5M lenses on them are designed
for very curved screens at exceptionally high
resolutions. As the projectors sit, they will not
work for flat screen home theatre use, but for my
industrial customers and owners of 909 and Cine 9
projectors, this is a very inexpensive way to get
backup parts for these very hard to find sets. I've
inspected two of the 6 projectors I've received, and
they have 5400 and 8200 hours on the chassis, which
is relatively low for the 909 chassis.
All tubes have simulator wear
on them, but show good light output and excellent
focus. The sets work perfectly, and prior to
selling, I will upgrade a number of capacitors in
the set that are known to fail in this chassis, and
will test each one for stability and reliability.
The black cases on these
projectors are in great shape, minor scuffs, but
overall in nicer condition than previous 909 sets
that I've had in. All circuit boards in the 919 can
be used in the 909/Cine 9 sets.
To convert these to flat screen
use, the following needs to happen: The tubes need
to be pulled out and turned 90 degrees to get back
to a 4:3 aspect ratio. This is easily done. The
lenses need to be changed or modified to flat screen
use. I am experimenting with these high resolution
lenses to see if they can be converted to flat
screen use. Also, the blue CRT socket needs to be
changed to one from a 909 projector, as it will not
have the clearance to fit into the chassis once the
tubes are rotated 90 degrees.
The pricing is as follows:
-
919 Barco SEOS units w/worn tubes and no lenses: $3500.00
-
019 Barco SEOS units w/worn
tubes and HD10R5M lenses: $4500.00
-
919 Barco SEOS unit w/new
tubes, converted to flat screen use w/HD10F lenses
from a Sony G90: $6500.00
-
919 Barco SEOS unit w/new
tubes, left for curved screen simulator use in
either 4:3 or 3:4 aspect ratio: $6500.00
I also have two Barco 909
projectors designed for flat screen use at the same
prices as the 919s above.
As the trend of CRT moves
towards the high end 9" projectors, and sets that
were the holy grail a few years ago are now becoming
available, it's time to clear out some of the lower
end projectors. I'll be maintaining parts and
service for all of these projectors still, but it's
time to clear out remaining stock of a bunch of the
7" units:
-
(Qty 3)
Sony
10xx: The chassis work, the tubes are OK but
not perfect. FREE! You cover shipping, or come and
pick up. These I have no parts left over for, but by
mid September, these will go to the recycler.
-
(Many)
NEC PG
series: I have a few complete sets, some
with near perfect tubes, some with lightly worn
tubes. $100 each. Email for details as to the exact
models that I have. These are plain PG sets, not the
PG+ or the PG Xtras. Remotes included.
-
(Qty 2)
Dwin
700: These are great, almost silent little
CRT projectors, and DWIN sold lots of these into
home theatres. I have two with near perfect tubes,
c/w remotes and I believe I have ceiling brackets as
well. If you're looking to do 720p from an HD source
for cheap, this is the way to go. Also note that
the DWIN 700 projector is brighter and sharper than
the DWIN 500, so here's a good way to upgrade that
soft image from a DWIN 500. $500 each.
-
(Qty 1)
NEC
XG75: While going through my
projectors, I found one XG75 with near perfect
tubes. The set works fine, it locks to all signals
instantly, and the tubes are in great shape. The
case is in decent shape as well. 1200 lumens, a full
8" EM focusing set, with amazing focusing abilities
due to NEC's comprehensive focusing and astig
adjustments. If you've got an NEC projector that's
showing wear, here's an easy way to upgrade. $800
for the projector incl. ceiling bracket and remote,
or $750 if you are replacing an existing unit. For
those with lower end ES focusing sets, this is a
really inexpensive way to get do a significant
upgrade.
-
(Qty 1)
NEC
XG100LC: This set is the
LC version of the NEC XG above, and it scans to 110
Khz. Again, I found this set to have near perfect
tubes, no visible wear on an all white screen, and
the LC version improves the contrast ratio of the
non LC chassis. The lenses and case in great shape,
and all functions work flawlessly. $1200.00 complete
with ceiling bracket and remote, or $1150.00 if you
already have an NEC that you're replacing. Keep in
mind also that if you have an NEC PG series of sets,
the XGs will drop right onto the same mounting
bracket, and the remotes are the same as well.
-
(Qty 3)
Marquee 8500: I have three
Marquee 8500 projectors in great shape. One comes
with a Vidikron Vision 2 fibreglass case on it, one
has the slightly sharper HD 145 lenses installed,
and one is a stock Marquee unit. All tubes in
perfect shape, no wear, cases in good shape. All
have performance modifications done (capacitor
replacement on several boards), and have had the
power supply filament voltage modification done.
Very reliable projectors, 1080p capable, very
stable convergence, and easy to set up. These sets
can easily be upgraded to 9500s with new tubes and
lenses and mounting brackets down the road. $1200.00
each.
-
(Many)
Marquee 9500: I have a number of 9500
chassis, and I have good stock of new old stock Marquee
tubes from 2011. I have about 20 green tubes, 20
reds, but only about 5 blues. As a result of this
purchase of new tubes, I've retubed and sold a
number of 9500s, so I have an abundance of very good
condition used 9" tubes with minimal or no wear on
them. A good example is a 9500 Ultra that I retubed
recently, that had 1600 hours on the chassis and
original tubes. I am willing to give a great deal
on two of the 9500s in stock, by installing these
very low use used tubes. The sets have the filament
voltage done and have had capacitors changed on a
number of boards. Like the 8500s above, these are
very reliable and stable. $1700 each.
-
(Qty 2)
Marquee 9500: As above, but
with new old stock 2011 vintage tubes installed.
Perfect shape, super sharp, zero wear on the tubes.
9" performance on a budget doesn't get better than
this! $2500.00 each. Only two of these in stock at
this time. I do have two sets of new old
stock 9" Marquee tube sets left, c/w yokes and
plastic shrouds already assembled, with factory
aligned magnetic. $1500 per set of RGB tubes. $650
each for green tubes, and $500 for reds. No single
blue tubes available at this time.
Other news
As most of you know, my
background is in both commercial audio and video
installations around the Vancouver and BC areas, and
it was only thanks to eBay and the AVSforum that I
got into online CRT video projector sales back in
1999. I've been doing more sound system
installations in the last 2 years, and have a
separate sound system website up and running. I'm relatively
well known in the Vancouver sound industry, as I've
been doing installations since 1985.
One of my long-time customers
that works at a local post secondary institution
asked if I was interested in buying all of their
surplus audio and video equipment that they'd
accumulated over the last few years, and of course I
ended up buying all of it. It's literally a full 1
ton van stuffed with audio and video equipment that
was all used at this facility, primarily in lecture
theatres (see
pictures). None of this equipment was ever used on
the road or in touring bands, and it's in excellent
shape. There's far too much to list here, as I'm
still running through all of the items, but the lot
includes:
-
Over 40 Sanyo and Epson LCD
projectors. These range from 2000-4000 lumens, and
are all (from what I've seen so far) 1024 X 768
resolution units. More designed as presentation
projectors over home theater units, these are great
for churches, presentation use, or heck, even a
cheap outdoor theater. Halloween special effects,
anyone? They can be used as a cheap home theatre
projector however.
-
Mixers, amplifiers and
processors by Sabine, Crown, Peavey and TOA. Again,
probably 150 rack mount pieces. A couple of rack
mount surge protectors. Shure and Audio Technica
wireless mics, mostly only the receivers though, as
by the time they are pulled out of service, the
transmitters are defective. Still, great as backup
units for existing systems.
-
1000s, and I mean literally
1000s of new in the box cassette tapes and VHS/SVHS
tapes. Sony, BASF, Fuji, Scotch and TDK. Normal and
chrome bias tapes. Again, most people have switched
to a digital recording medium, but there's still a
high demand for new analog tape. Note that this tape
was all stored in a climate controlled environment
in the basement of the facility, so they are all in
flawless shape.
All of this recent equipment
will be sold at under eBay pricing. I need to move
it quickly, so I'll do some research as to what each
piece typically goes for, and will sell for 10-25%
less than the going rate. This includes the LCD
projectors and all of the magnetic tape. We will
post a growing list on
SoundSolutionsCanada.com, and we'll
list the LCD projectors here. Since we don't like to
send out unrelated newsletters to people that don't
need them, if you'd like to see the ongoing specials
and news about the commercial audio side,
please sign yourself up
here. Also, as everyone is doing
these days, we've got a
Facebook page. Feel free to ‘like' us, as we
will be putting specials and quick installation and
equipment updates there before you'll see it in a
newsletter.
Once we hit 100 ‘likes', we'll start doing small
giveaways as well, and we'll be posting some tech
articles that you may find
interesting.

Marquee Bellows on sale until end of August
August
6, 2013
Custom made
Electrohome Marquee CRT projector high performance
bellows are on sale until the end of August.
These have been carefully reverse engineered
using better materials than the original (no longer
available) stock bellows. Lab tested for
superior performance and sold exclusively through CurtPalme.
Why would I want new bellows?
Over time the
original bellows may leak and "sweat"
glycol out into the projector which can destroy other components as glycol is
a very corrosive material. Leaking/sweating of any fluids in and around
tubes running at 35,000+ volts isn't a good thing!
For complete details on how to tell if yours are
leaking, see our
Marquee Bellows order page.
In addition, when replacing tubes you also need
to replace the bellows as removing the existing ones
without destroying them is nearly impossible.
Which projectors can use these bellows?
All liquid-coupled (LC) Electrohome Marquee projectors (and clones) can use
these bellows. This includes but is not necessarily limited to:
-
Electrohome Marquee 8500LC, 8500LC Ultra, 9000,
9500LC, 9500LC Ultra
- Accurate Imaging Technologies 9, 9-X
- Crystal View CV-1
- GTT Audio Video HT Reference 9
- Madrigal MP-8, MP-9
- Reference Imaging CinePro 9x, 9x Elite
- Spatz Tech RE9000, RE9500
- Theater Automation Wow (TAW) HD-900
- Vidikron Vision 1
- Visual Dynamics Reference 9

I've recently witnessed
excellent success by a vintage audio company that's
local to me here in Vancouver with their Facebook
page, so I recently started one of my own for my pro
audio company,
Sound Solutions (2002) Inc.
While in its infancy, It's a
quick and easy way for me to post technical
information, deals, and sound system technical
articles. Heck, I'll also be doing the odd giveaway
of equipment to a random person! Feel free to 'like'
my page, and you'll keep up with the latest
information.
On to projectors - I've
recently been going through a number of projectors
here, and am continuing to discover and refurbish
sets that have been here too long:
-
(Qty 1)
Sony D50: I have
an excellent condition Sony D50 with an
original 571 hours on the tubes and chassis.
There are still a lot of D50s in the field, and
since tubes are now discontinued, here's an easy
way to replace a worn tube D50 with a like-new
condition set. 800 lumens out of this quiet
little set, built in component input with a
transcoder, and available HDMI inputs via
a Moome card.
Comes with remote and power cord for $650.00.
Reduce the price to $600 if you already have an
existing Sony CRT projector and can reuse the original
remote.
-
(Qty 2)
Barco 909:
These just came in from a flight simulator. Both
sets needed the green tubes replaced due to very
slight wear, the red and blues are original with
no wear. Perfect working shape, fully tested and
mod'ed to replace a bunch of parts that tended
to fail on the 909 sets, including parts on the
power supply, video and horizontal module. Top
of the line LUG tubes and HFQ900 lenses make
this the sharpest CRT projector out there, period.
Comes with remote control. The cases on these
are scratched up due to them being stored, so
I'll sell these with a number of possibilities
and options:
-
New green tube,
scratched case: $6,300.00
-
New green tube, body
shop repaired and painted case, painted to
your color of choice: $6,600.00
-
New green tube, painted and repaired
case, added red and green C-elements
$6,900.00
I don't run across 909 sets
very often, jump on these now!
-
(Qty 5)
Sony G90: I still have several Sony G90s
ranging in price from $2500 to $4500, depending
on how many tubes I've changed out. $2500 gets
you an original low hour set with very light
tube wear, and $4500 gets you a fully retubed
G90. Good for well past 1080p resolution. The
Dallas memory chips have been replaced for long
term reliability. I sold 20 G90s last year, and am
up to having sold 10 this year. 5 in stock
currently.
See my
eBay summary for more. Happy summer, everyone! We're
still waiting for it here in Vancouver...

It is firmware updatable so that new features can be
added in the future as needed.
Completely plug & play. Simply add the
3D-Theatre between your source and the display.
Works on all 720p (or better) HD displays. Upgrade
to 3D at a fraction of the cost of buying a new
display.
Enjoy the latest 3D movies such as
The Hobbit,
Wizard of Oz,
Avatar,
Titanic,
Life of Pi, and
more! Also available are
3D sports and shows on
ESPN 3D and
SKY 3D.
Reviews/Testimonials "No ghosting on the image and the 3D effect on
my 120" screen is out of this world... This blows
the Movie Cinema's away, when you can set this up on
a big screen. And I love the added bonus of
taking the 3D-Theatre to anyone's house to enjoy 3D
since it works on any display. What more can I say
except I am glad Optoma delayed their product since
the 3D-Theatre is 110 times better and supports ALL
formats (unlike the 3D-XL) So if your thinking of
making the move to 3D but can't afford a 3DTV, or
heck, why even bother buying a 3DTV when you can
use the 3D-Theatre with your existing TV and/or
projector ... PRICELESSS" - Ian
"ONE WORD! AWESOME!!! Don't let the small size or the very basic
appearance of the 3D-Theater sway you in any way! It's the performance of this
little box that really impressed me. After waiting quite some time for the 3D-XL
to come out which still hasn't shipped in any volume I decided to get this
instead, and sure glad I did. It is super simple to setup and works perfect with
the PS3 and also with my WD TV Live media player for playing SBS 3D files. I
have it hooked up to my Optoma GT720 120hz 3D Ready short throw and watching
3D Blu-Ray on a 135" screen is simply breathtaking! Get one you won't be
disappointed!!" - John

CRT Projectors & Parts for sale
May
5, 2013
See our
CRT Primer to read why CRT projectors are still used where
reliability and picture quality is paramount. Our
Projector Rankings page will show you how they
stack up. Not sure what
projector is right
for you? Email Curt
for help!
I've spent
the better parts of April out of town in Northern BC
and on a road trip to San Diego, Scottsdale and
back, buying many new projectors that will be listed
on the website within a month. I've decided that
it's time to liquidate a bunch more of the older
projector stock, parts, and tubes thereof, as
there's been very little call for these types of
sets in recent years. I have bought a huge stock of
new in the box 9" tubes that I will be listing soon,
so now is the time to make room in the shop for
their arrival.
I know there
are still a bunch of you that are running older 7"
ES focusing sets like the Sony 12XX series, Barco
800, 801, Ampros, Electrohome ECP and also the NEC
PG and PG+ sets (yes, the NECs are EM focusing!). At
this time, I am going to reduce my parts stock by
about 75%, and am also going to be selling a lot of
tubes on eBay for very low pricing. If you're still
running one or more of these older sets, and want a
stock of backup parts for them,
email me
to let me know what you want. I can either sell
boards as-is, right off my parts shelf for almost
nothing, or I can test the parts before I sell them
in a working set here for a bit more, to cover my
time spent testing them. Almost all boards in my
stock were good when I put them on the shelf, but
some have been sitting there for 8+ years. I do have
some boards such as Sony 127X series deflection
boards with cracks in them, which I'll give away for
parts use only, for the cost of shipping. That's
what I was saving them for, and I did indeed strip a
couple of boards over the years for the hard to find
transistors, and coils, etc. I will be keeping a
very small selection of ES focusing parts in stock
to keep my customers going, but since most CRT users
have upgraded to 8 and 9" sets, it's time to dump
most of my stock of the lower end sets.
As for
tubes, I have dozens of red (mostly) and green
SD-130 and SD187 tubes, with a small selection of
07MS tubes as well. Sadly, no good blue tubes at
this point, they're long gone. Some have fungus, all
have good phosphor, and defungusing a tube is an
easy process, although it takes about an hour to do.
I don't want to spend the time to bring them up to
full operating condition, so a tube with fungus in
it will be literally no charge, just cover packing
and shipping charges. Buy multiples if you want,
these Sony tubes ship well.
I'll be
listing full sets of NEC PG and PG+ tubes on
eBay. I have some that are new in the box,
and I will be listing some reds and blues
individually, as I have more of those than I have
green tubes. Again, very cheap pricing.
I have some
lightly worn 9" tubes in Barco and Marquee housings
that I will be listing on
eBay as well. Some have 4:3 wear, some have
16:9 wear. All are usable, and may be in better
shape than what you currently have, so again, it's a
good way to get some backup tubes, or to upgrade
your current tubes without spending $1200+ on a
brand new one. My
eBay listings will be as accurate as
possible, but they are used tubes. I will guarantee
no DOA, and that they are in the condition that I
state they are in. Pictures on
eBay will be with and without camera flash,
so you can determine whether my tubes are better
than yours. Pricing will start very low save for 9"
green Marquee tubes, as the dark green C elements
are worth more than the tubes themselves.
Lastly, I
was fortunate enough to run across a small cache of
new in the box 9" Marquee tubes! For a very short
time until these 5 tubes are gone, I will be selling
brand new (old stock) VDC green tubes by themselves
for $650 each. These come with factory yokes and
astig magnets, already aligned and set by VDC. They
are new in the box, with the plastic cover still
intact over the C lens! Each tube comes complete
with the plastic shroud assembly, so replacing a
tube in a Marquee is as easy as it gets, the whole
assembly drops right in. They come in original VDC
boxes, and I will double box with more bubble wrap
so the tube arrives intact. These tubes are $2200
each from VDC currently, so at $650, they are a
great bargain! Planetariums and flight simulators
using Marquee projectors, take note! I am selling
green tubes for $650 each, and blue and red tubes
for $550 each. If you buy a set of RGB, I'll bring
the price of the green down to $550 per tube. Got a
worn tube in your set? Got low emission on 1 tube
only? Here's your chance to bring the brightness and
punch back to your Electrohome chassis at a fraction
of the price from VDC. I double box the tubes and
insure them, so you're guaranteed to get an intact
tube. Limited supply, these won't last, as I have a
slew of new Marquee projectors that came in that
I'll be using a bunch of these in as well.
I have gone
on a buying spree of more CRT projectors. These
include Barco 909, Sony G90, Marquee 9500 and 9500
Ultras, as well as a couple of Runco 1100/Barco
1209s. I've got a couple of Vision 1 and Vision 2s
as well. I did receive a couple of BG808s and
Marquee 8500s, and I'll put some new or good used
tubes in those before I list them on the website.
Feel free to
email me
if you have any specific requests, but the best
thing Is to check
eBay regularly, as I'll list a lot of items
over the next few weeks.
My eBay ID
is ‘audiovideotechnician',
and I am trying to list more items daily, as I have
the time. As a small aside, I'm also blowing out
some later model laptops for cheap. See my
eBay summary.
Happy CRTing!

"On a CRT... I think for the first time there is a device out there
worth the money that will actually improve on the image, and would do so without
making the projected CRT image look like a cheap digital." - Mike Parker, video designer/modder (read

Up until now people have usually had to turn OFF most
"image enhancement" features in their displays,
Blu-ray players, and other devices as they destroy
image quality.
Introducing the
DarbeeVision Darblet, the first image enhancement tool that
actually gets it right and provides an exceptional
increase in depth and detail for both digital and CRT
displays. The better and more detailed your source
signal is, the better the resulting picture will be.
Completely plug and play. The Darblet installs
between your source and display. Installation takes 30 seconds. A useful "Demo" mode lets you view both
the before and after pictures side by side.
Order yours and see what all the fuss is about!

CRT Projectors for sale
October
21, 2012
See our
CRT Primer to read why CRT projectors are still used where
reliability and picture quality is paramount. Our
Projector Rankings page will show you how they
stack up. Not sure what
projector is right
for you? Email Curt
for help!
It's been a
while since I've posted a list of CRTs for sale, but
I've had a lot of new projectors come in within the
last month, with more coming in. Due to my increased
load of sound system installations, I haven't looked
at any of these sets yet, but am starting to this
week and will have them all ready for sale by the
end of November.
The list of
available sets on the website is still more or less
accurate, but I'll update that by October 31 with some
new and improved pricing. Check back in November as I'm
lowering the prices on all of the lower end sets...
New
arrivals/incoming:
-
Zenith Pro 1200:
Two available. These are the
Barco Cine 8 Onyx
projectors, which are the equivalent of the
Barco Cine 8 sets, but with LC tubes installed.
While Barco did not make many
of these sets, the parts are the same as a
regular 808, so there are plenty of spare parts
and CRTs available. Both of these sets had
tube wear, so I'm installing a pair of identical
sets of tubes that have very low (1500 hours)
use on them. Both sets have the convergence on
green card installed, making these ideal for
blending or stacking. Kal, my webmaster has had
one of these in
his home theatre for about 8
years, and he loves it. 1080p capable, 1200
lumens. $2000 each,
or $3500 for the pair. Cases are black, and are in
near perfect condition.
-
Barco 809 split pack: This is the equivalent
of a
909 projector with 9"
tubes and HFQ900 lenses, but with the 808
electronics pack. Full video bandwidth, this is
the last one out of 7 that I had, and all other
customers are happy with their units. Beyond
1080p capability. HFQ 900 lenses installed,
the best 9" lenses out there. $4500.00
-
Sony G90: A couple of sets are already in stock
and are in the process of being retubed. I have at
least 3 more sets coming in within the next month.
I've now scrapped several G90s, so I have a good
selection of parts in stock as well. Pricing will
range from $3000 to $4500.00 depending on tube
condition. I do have two brand new set of tubes, so
at least one of these G90s will be fully retubed,
and will sell for the $4500 price. A set for $3000
will have original low hour tubes with minimal wear.
The Dallas memory chips are replaced on all G90s
that I sell, as an old Dallas chip can spot burn
tubes if it fails completely while the set is
running. I've seen this on several sets before, so I
automatically change the Dallas chips on any G90
that comes through the door.
-
Barco 909: I've been fortunate enough to
run across three Barco 909 sets recently. I have yet
to retube these, but have looked at one so far. It
has minimal tube wear, but I will most likely
install a new green tube for perfection, depending
on the buyer's wishes. The 909 is definitely the
pinnacle of CRT performance. 2160p resolution is
possible according to the specs, and the control
over all picture functions is one step above the
Sony G90. The HFQ 900 lenses that come stock on the
909 are the best available, for a stunning, sharp
image. The
cases on these 909s are not perfect, and I can
either sand and paint the cases if desired, or if
you want to save some money, I'll send them out as
is, and you can do the paint work yourself (or if
you're putting the set into a hush box, the case
won't be important anyway).
Pricing will range from $5000-8000 depending on the
overall condition of each set, and how it is sold.
I will do a number of reliability modifications
prior to selling each set, as a number of boards
have common failures that I'll take care of for long
term reliability.
-
Runco DTV1200: This set is one slight step
above the 909, as it uses the
Cine 9 chassis that
has color corrected red and green C-elements, and has the
quieter fans in the chassis. All other specs are
the same as the 909. Price is yet to be determined,
it will depend on the overall condition of the set.
If you have interest, please email me.
Parts:
I am
blowing out a bunch of excess parts for many sets,
as I have too many. I also have any number of tubes
that I'm selling off, including two new old stock
complete sets of the very hard to find Barco G808s
tubes. These are the Sony tubes that were $1400 each
from VDC. I managed to find two brand new BG808s
split pack chassis, with the original 100 test hours
that Barco puts on at the factory, so these sets
were new in the box. I've scrapped them for parts,
but have these tubes available. I did power both
sets of tubes up, and they are indeed unused.
Perfect focus and light output, a great way to get
another bunch of years out of your BG808s. Some
BG1208s also used these Sony tubes. $750 per
full set.
Email me if
you're looking for any projector parts or tubes, as
I'm concentrating more on the higher end 8 and 9"
sets at this point. I'll still be maintaining more
than enough parts and boards to keep the 7 and 8"
sets running for a bunch of more years.

eBay listings for additional items. Interested or have questions?

3D-EVOLVER: The world's first 1080p
dual projector passive 3D processor
October 15, 2012
Introducing
3D-Evolver: The
world's first 1080p dual projector passive 3D
processor delivering movie theatre quality
visual experience via
inexpensive passive/polarized 3D glasses. A simple setup designed for commercial and
residential experience offering dramatic 3D with
non-3D projectors.
Also allows 2D content to be viewed with enhanced quality and extraordinary depth with dual
projectors and passive glasses.
Supports 1080p and 2K formats with 4K support
forthcoming. Supports all 3D formats and all players - Satellite, Cable, Game
consoles, 3D Blu-ray players, and internet/mobile media players.
Enjoy the latest 3D movies such as
The Avengers,
Titanic,
Prometheus,
Men in Black 3, and
more. Also available are sports and movies on
ESPN 3D and
SKY 3D.
How is the 3D-Evolver different from the 3D-Theater?
3D converters like the
3D-Theater use active (battery powered)
RF shutter glasses or similar that require an
emitter to work. These glasses are typically priced around the $100 mark.
The 3D-Evolver uses inexpensive polarized 3D
glasses like those used in commercial movie theaters. These glasses are
available for
less than $2/each and are available in
kid sizes too. No emitter required, no batteries to charge, and no worries
about breaking a pair as they are so inexpensive.
The 3D-Evolver supports up to 1080p Full HD
while the 3D-Theatre supports up to 720p.
The 3D-Evolver requires two (2) identical 2D projectors to work. A dual
projector setup with both running at 60Hz refresh eliminates the flicker of a
single projector active system where each eye only gets 30Hz (as not all
projectors support 120Hz). A dual projector setup also doubles the brightness of
the system, allowing for larger screens and/or a brighter picture with the 3D
glasses on. Brightness is always reduced with single-projector active systems.

Lumagen Radiance 125 point Advanced
Auto-Calibration
September 18, 2012
Why settle for only 6 point
calibration? 125 point is now available
providing previously unavailable levels of accuracy.
Best of all it's 100% automatic! No prior knowledge
or training is required.
Here's the problem:
Standard consumer video we're all
used to provides about 10 million colors (roughly
the amount the human eye is capable of
distinguishing).
We have been patting ourselves on
the back for the last several years with displays
and external video processors that offer color correction for six colors. Six.
That leaves almost ten million colors unadjusted.
Perfect colors throughout the entire gamut simply isn't possible.
Any experienced calibrator will
report that many consumer displays that measure
nearly perfectly at those six points often measure
very poorly everywhere else inside the gamut. As a
result, what
you see is often something of a mess.
Enter the
Lumagen Radiance
with its new 125 point
colour management system. Together with
ChromaPure
software
Advanced Auto-Calibration it solves this problem and
does so completely automatically with little to no
user input.

Advanced Auto-Calibration at a

PRICELESS" - Ian
"ONE WORD!
Get one you won't be
disappointed!" - John

MASSIVE Radiance XE sale until end of August
July 6, 2012
We're having a massive sale on the
high end
Radiance
XE video processor to help Lumagen move
some stock. This is the highest end video processor
available on the market today. Sale ends August 31,
2012.
Because our sale price is
considerably below Lumagen's "minimum advertised
price" we are not allowed to post it publically. You
must visit our
Radiance order page and click "BUY NOW" to add it to
your cart to see the sale price.
Combine it with the award winning
ChromaPure
software to auto-calibrate any display: Anyone with
little or no training in video technology can now
calibrate their display in just 5-10 minutes.
The higher clock speed
Radiance
XE+ is also on sale for you high end CRT
projector owners (Sony
G90,
Barco 1209/Cine9,
Electrohome Marquee 95xx, etc.) who want to
do 1080p/72Hz or 1080p/75Hz. 72Hz refresh allows you
to run film at exactly 3x the native rate at which
film is shot (24 frames/second) instead of at the
usual 50 or 60Hz. Running at even multiples of the
native rate eliminates motion 'judder' which some
people find annoying. CRT based displays flicker too
much at 24Hz and 48Hz, requiring the use of 72Hz
refresh rate. Flicker does not exist on digital
displays as the bulb is always on.
Free US/Canada shipping is included.
Contact us
for an international shipping quote. We ship
worldwide.
Buy once, use
forever! The Radiance is the only video processor that we
know of that, over the years, has kept up with new
features and offered upgrades to existing users -
often through completely free software upgrades!
Most other companies we know of do not do this.
Instead, they make you buy a new model as new
features are introduced.
You don't hear this often but CurtPalme.com is
comfortable in saying that the Radiance is the one
true "buy once, use forever" video processor that
has stood the test of time. The Radiance is
completely over engineered with processing power
that has proven that it can take on just about
anything. Truly phenomenal support from Jim Peterson
and his crew!

Radiance order page for more details and

New EyeOne Pro 2 spectroradiometer
July 3, 2012
X-Rite recently released an updated
version of their EyeOne Pro meter and called it, not
surprisingly, the EyeOne Pro 2 (aka i1Pro 2).
Effective immediately all of our
ChromaPure EyeOne Pro packages
include the new X-Rite i1Basic Pro 2 (EO2BAS) retail
package at no additional cost. Perfect for PC/Mac
monitor calibration and print/photography colour
management.
This way you get the best of both
worlds: Use ChromaPure
for TV/Home Theater calibration and X-Rite's own
software and tools for print/photo/PC/Mac
calibration.
Already own ChromaPure?
Contact us
for meter only pricing on the new EyeOne Pro 2.
How does the new EyeOne Pro 2 compare to the original?
The EyeOne Pro 2 replaces the extremely
stable original EyeOne Pro revision D that
people have known and used for years. The accuracy
of the EyeOne Pro 2 is the same for the original
EyeOne Pro. It looks and feels like it is better
built, and is heavier.
It is better isolated from
temperature (partially due to the aluminum outer
shell) and it reads higher levels of luminance. The vast majority of the improvements made are for
reflectance readings for those who use it for
photography and print work, not for the emissive
mode for calibrating displays.
The EyeOne Pro 2 also looks and
behaves identically as the EyeOne Pro as far as
supporting software is concerned. If software
supports the EyeOne Pro, then it will also work with
the EyeOne Pro 2. No ChromaPure software or driver
changes are required.

HDMI card overstock sale
May
28, 2012
Moome needs to clear some overstock
of HDMI cards for CRT projectors so he has cut
prices to blow them out fast.
If you're looking at adding HDMI to
your CRT projector, now's the time to do it! An HDMI
input is required to use most of the latest sources
such as DVD/Blu-ray players, PS3, and satellite/cable.
Some older card versions are also
available in extremely limited quantities. While we recommend the
latest version for high end 8-9" CRT projectors, with
lower end 7-8" units the difference will not be as
noticeable so this is a good chance to save a few
dollars.
Quantities are limited. First come,
first served. For complete details see the
respective order pages listed above.

It's been a while since we've put out a list of
projectors for sale, but given that we've got in
dozens of new sets, it's high time that one got sent
out.
Considering the large number of high end 9" sets
that we've received in the last month, some older
projector parts had to go. We have now recycled all
Sony 10XX parts,
analog Barco parts (1000, 1001, 1500, 400,
and 600) and
ECP 3000/4000 parts. We also got rid of
Zenith PRO 851 and
880/881 sets, and most of our
Ampro 2000 and
2600 parts. We did keep select ECP parts,
specifically the power supplies and a few neck
boards, but considering we haven't had an inquiry in
over 2 years for these parts, it was time to
liquidate literally 500 lbs of PC boards and other
parts. We do still have a test chassis for each of
these sets however, so if you're still running one
of these 22+ year old sets, we can still repair
boards if need be.
Over the next 6 months we will be blowing out a
lot more of the older
ES focusing set parts for dirt cheap. This
includes most parts for the
Barco 800/801/500/1200, more Electrohome ECP
boards (3100
and 4100 series),
Zenith PRO 900, most
Sony 12XX parts, SD187 tubes, 07MP tubes,
07MSP tubes (some in mint condition), some
NEC PG
parts and tubes, and a bunch of the older
Marquee
8000 parts. If you're running one of these sets,
here's a good time to stock up on boards and tubes
for next to nothing.

As for the new sets that we've gotten in, here
goes:
-
Barco 808:
We have a number of really nice condition Barco
808 sets. We have virtually all four models in stock,
from the BD808 to the BG808s sets at very attractive
prices, but two of the BG808s sets deserve
mentioning:
We received in two new old stock
Barco 808 split
packs recently (8" tubes). Both of these had under 150 hours on
the chassis, one was still fastened to the plywood
mounting hardware that they ship in. Barco puts
about 130 test hours on the chassis before shipping,
so these indeed were new old stock.
For those not familiar with split packs, these
are sets where the electronics is in one box, and
the tubes and lenses are in another. The boxes are
connected with a 6 foot umbilical cord. These were
designed for flight simulators, so that there was a
lot more flexibility with the installation of these
sets. While the boxes are simply powder coated
aluminum, they do allow for neat installations where
you might mount the lens box between studs in a low
ceiling, for a low profile CRT installation. For
more information and pictures see
this page at Barco.com.
We can sell these split packs as is, or we can
put all the boards and tubes and lenses into a
BG808s chassis, so that short of the motherboard,
you'll have a new old stock BG808s projector. We're
selling these sets at $2000 each. Perfect for 1080p!
The cases on the BG808s sets that we can drop these
tubes and electronics into are in good shape,
minimal marks and scratches.
-
Marquee 8500:
We also have three Marquee
8500 sets
in stock with
excellent condition tubes, along with one Vidikron
Vision 2 (Marquee 8500 with the fibreglass case on it
in white). $1800.00 each.
-
Marquee 9500 Ultra:
Two low hour (about 2500), 1
owner units, no tube wear. Top of the line sets that
are still in production by VDC. We go through these
sets fully, clean all module contacts and test run
the projectors. With a
Moome
HDMI card these are excellent 1080p
and beyond sets, with a life expectancy of over 10
years. $3800 each.
-
Sony
G90:
Two sets available (with 1 more possibly coming in). Top
of the line Sony sets, capable of well past 1080p.
We
install new Dallas memory chips into these to
prevent premature failure, and they come with
original Sony remotes. We've got two sets here with
light wear, but also have brand new green tubes in
stock. $3000 with light wear on the green.
$4000 with a brand new green tube (no R or B wear).
-
Barco 809 split
pack projectors: Here’s a rare find: These
sets are the same as the Barco 808 split packs
described above, but with a 909 tube and lens end.
The tube box comes with 9" LUG tubes, the best you
can get, and with the super rare and expensive
HFQ900 lenses. In essence, you get a 909 projector
attached to a BG808s set of electronics. Not quite
the adjustment range of a 909 chassis, but we've
always said, most of the performance of a projector
is based on the tubes and lenses used, not the
electronics behind them. The BG808s set of
electronics has the best specs of all the Barco 808
chassis. We have 7 in stock.
These came out of a simulator, where they were in
standby mode for long periods of time, with no light
coming out of the tubes, but were apparently only
used twice in the last 10 years before they were
pulled out of service. There is absolutely no wear
on the tubes, and the emission is as new. They put
out an amazing picture!
Two options with these: We can sell them as split
packs as offered, but I can also pull the tubes and
electronics and put them into
Barco 1209s or
Runco
1100 chassis that we have here, for a conventional,
turbocharged 9" set. Comes with remote. $4500 each. A steal
for an amazing 9" set. Listed on eBay
here (no reserve).
Again, we have also received many parts in
recently, too numerous to list, and we've scrapped a
lot of chassis, with lots more to go. We simply don't
need 150 projectors in stock. If you want some
backup parts, we have multiples of almost everything
in stock at this point (save for Barco quads and
Marquee HVPS) and a bunch need to go. Why buy "as
is" parts on eBay when you can buy tested ones that
come with a warranty here?
