Runco
One of the most common brands of consumer high end projectors is Runco.
However, Runco is not a CRT projector manufacturer in the truest sense; Runco
takes CRT projectors from Zenith, NEC and Barco, in some cases makes modifications, paints them black, and
re-labels them.
The modifications done are to usually better serve the home theater market,
such as replacing the clear red/green c-elements or glycol with coloured
versions for more accurate colour reproduction. For example, Runco adds colour
filtering to the Barco Graphics 808s in creating their DTV-992 Ultra.
In some models the changes are more drastic as in the case of the Runco
DTV-852: Runco custom ordered
stripped down Zenith PRO 900x projectors and installed a line doubler and changed
components on the microprocessor board, but the specs of projector by and
large still remain true to the original Zenith chassis.
Check out Runco projectors, then check out NEC’s, Barco's and Zenith's. If
the case style looks the same, it will be a set that was supplied by one of the
larger manufacturers to Runco's specifications. See the
model cross-reference page for more
information.
To see how these projectors rank in relation to other projectors for use in a
