Layout and Setup Tips

Some quick tips provided by 'phooka' of the AVS forum:

1) The helps menus are 3600/4600 style, that is help setup is [help] 5, not [help] 7 a la 2000.

2) 77 [code] and 79 [code] leave you with the color temp at "user settings" and basically no real drive on the CRTs. The fool proof way on my 2600HD to get help visible is to do the 77 [code] and 79 [code] then [help] 5 followed by 96 [code] and reset to a color temp of 6500K. Then turn up the brightness and contrast till you can make out the help text.

3) An easy way to tell that the help screens are active is watch/listen for the red CRT to turn off.

4) If following the 3600/4600 setup manual there is no static horizontal shift, and no EM focus, focus is via a HV breakout block just like in a late model 2000D/G

5) The internal test patterns, are way off, use external or you have no hope of getting good edge convergence.   However, if you press "4" then "test" and the test patterns will be gen-locked to the video source. That makes the convergence (or registration as Ampro called it) much better.

6) The neck boards are late 200 series so look in the 2000 manual for G2 setup procedure and test points for sub-contrast and sub-brightness settings.
