There was actually one blended LCD set of projectors. I
couldn’t see who they were made by. There was a clear band of
light where the two images were blended, but it still made for a
large, bright picture on one of the walls of the show.
Now you can also take your home theater on the road with you
while driving. Keeping your eyes on the road is optional.
One display item that I almost missed because it was
mislabelled at the show was the Sony laser flat screen. It was
advertised as an SxRD, but actually used lasers for the light
source.
Unfortunately it too had issues. While only a prototype (the
sales rep had no specs available nor a price), the massive
pinkish screen on the right side was not due to my camera. There
was a big shift in tint across the screen. The sales rep
couldn’t explain why.
Gefen makes a whole bunch of interesting ‘black boxes’ to
convert video signals, distribution amps and a new inexpensive
scaler that looks promising. I’ve got their catalog, and will
most likely sign up to be a dealer later this year.
While everyone was touting a 1080p display, I saw many
devices still being connected via 1080i analog component.
