CAR SPEAKERS AND ACCESSORIES
OK people, car stereo has reached ridiculous new heights this
year. ‘Back in the day’ when I entered a car stereo competition,
I managed to hit 128 db and got in the top 5 with two Alphasonik
amps and two EV 15” subwoofers. OK, that was back in 1986, but
who’s counting? Now I see from a trade magazine that some
manufacturer’s demo cars get to be in the 180 db club. Excuse
me? 125 db is the threshold of pain, 3 db more is double that in
volume. So 180 db is… insane! (just my opinion). Here’s more
insanity:
MTX: Here’s insanity at it’s best. The pix from last year
showed the Jackhammer subwoofer. 22” in diameter, 23” long, 6000
watts RMS, 18,000 watts peak. This year it’s back, but with TWO
Jackhammers installed into an Escalade. (I love the warning sign
below):
Here is that Escalade:
Of course, one battery simply isn’t enough to drive 12,000
watts RMS that those Jackhammers need:
The sign below reads: DO NOT CLOSE TRUNK!
