High Voltage/Power Supply Issues: Set is Pulsing
The final power supply related issue
is a set that pulses. The SMPS in these
projectors shut down when they sense a
short in the set, and tend not to self
destruct in the case of a short. The
power supply turns off, but then tries
to restart when it sees a short. This
causes the power supply to pulse at a
rate somewhere between three times a
second and once a second.
While it’s likely that the short is right on the SMPS board itself, it’s also
possible for a shorted board anywhere in the set to cause this pulsing. Pull
each board one at a time and power the set back up. If you remove a board with a
short on it, the pulsing should stop. Send that board in for repair.
