Vertical board
The V board flips up to expose the component side. The V board contains the
output section for the convergence section and for the vertical deflection.
The V board has a green LED on it to indicate that the V output section is
working correctly. Generally this board is reliable and gives few problems. A
convergence problem with one tube will usually indicate a problem on this board.
The V and convergence connectors are also located on the bottom of this board to
orient correct projection depending on the mounting of the set. The orientation
is stamped right on this board at each connector.
CRT sockets
The CRT sockets and the CRT tubes in general are very reliable and do not
fail. All of the wiring save for the ground leads will unplug at the tubes. The
thick focus lead that goes into the CRT socket will come out of the CRT socket
once all other wiring is disconnected. The CRT socket as a plastic tab that
flips out, releasing the focus wire.
HV quadrupler
Similar to the PRO 851, the PRO 880 and PRO 900 sets used a 2 piece focus
block. One part contains the focus controls that are siliconed into place, and
permanently stuck G2 controls. Since this set has an AKB adjustment, the G2
controls are permanently set and never need adjustments. The other part of the
HV splitter/quadrupler sits between the R and B tubes at the bottom of the
chassis. This block can crack and arc and cause other problems in the set.
Replacement is done as a whole, these blocks cannot be repaired.
