System boards
I am lumping the system, wave and control boards together as they all work
together and have no user adjustments on them. These boards all fit in the
shielded card cage. The PG model had two system type boards, the PG + and Xtras
had all three. The boards between the models changed, so you can’t mix and match
these boards. Even the 6 and 9 PG models use different boards, and some problems
will result if you don’t use the right board or software revisions.
Again, there are no user adjustments on these boards. The most common failure of
these boards is caused by a bad system board which usually causes loss of sync
at certain resolutions. Usually either a video or S-video signal will work
(480i) and/or 480p with an RGB input will work, but all other resolutions will
not lock properly. On occasion I can repair these boards if this occurs, often
the system board will need replacement. Fortunately, these boards do not fail
often.
Not pictured is a similar looking point convergence board which also fits
into the shielded card cage. This board provides 100 points of convergence per
color that is used to fine tune the image. The point board came stock with the
9PG series of sets, it was optional with the 6 PG series.
