The front of the set shows the low voltage main power supply and the HV
regulation board mounted on top of the LVPS. Failure of these two modules are
relatively rare, and the power supply and HV regulation board needs to be pulled
out to remove the lenses from the tubes. There is one screw on each side of the
LVPS, then the LVPS pulls out about 6”.
To the left of the LVPS is the HV board. This contains two HV transformers
and a HV combiner. Failure of these units is also rare, and this board assembly
also needs to be removed to get the lenses off. The HV block assembly has three
screws that hold it to the chassis, then it pulls out similar to the LVPS.
While not shown, each lens frame is held to the chassis by four 8mm brass
nuts. Remove the nuts, and the lens and frame come right off. There is about an
1/8” air gap between the tube and the lens, and dust will collect in the gap,
causing halos or poor focus. Clean the face of the tube with a soft cotton cloth
and water. The back of the lens scratches quite easily, so a paper towel and a
cleaning solution is not a good idea.
